Caramelised Pear and Almond Cake

Caramelised Pear and Almond Cake

I have tried to make a cake with pear before but it just didn’t work out, it sunk in the middle and wasn’t very appealing to look at. I never posted it, but I still have the pear cake bug, every time I see a pear I want to wrap it something fluffy and sweet.

This weekend I bought three pears with the sole purpose of forcing me to try again. I found this pear cake recipe by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall.

A Birthday Cake!

Today is my birthday! I’ve had some great presents and some lovely messages from friends and family. However my birthday treat to myself was to bake a cake, well that and the two pairs of boots I’ve bought today 🙂

Over the past year I have seen so many beautiful cake recipes, that I new I wanted to try something a bit different. Chocolate and Cherry Dobos Torte: Daring Baker's Challenge

Butterfly Cakes

So this whole cupcake thing? I’m not really sure I get it. I love the cake part but the buttercream filling/topping? I’d rather not bother – all that sugar, yuck!

Anyway since I am the only person on the planet that has this view, I went ahead and made butterfly cakes for my friends. Hoping that when I made them myself that something would click, and I’d love them and fit in with the rest of the world.

Cherry Bakewell Cake

So as you guessed I am in a bit of a cherry kick right now, and when I saw this recipe for raspberry bakewell cake in this months Good Food magazine I knew I had to try it, and that I also had to substitute in cherries for the raspberries.

Thankfully I had reason for baking this cake, not that I wouldn’t have done it anyway, but I have friends over this weekend. So what better than a slice of cherry cake with your coffee?

So after making coffee muffins that tasted good, I decided to branch out with a coffee cake. I think I put the mocha frosting on too early, but it tasted just perfect.
